Sound Start Early Childhood Music offers weekly music classes for children ages newborn to six years to enjoy with a parent or caregiver. Families love our well-trained and ridiculously fun instructors, award-winning curriculum (created by The Music Class, Inc.) and high quality instruments and props. Our research-based teaching methods will help boost your child's sense of pitch and rhythm and foster a life-long appreciation for music during your child's most significant period of brain development- early childhood. We offer four sessions each year (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.) We are currently offering indoor and outdoor class options. Select a session below to see details about the different kinds of classes available.
Sound Start proudly uses The Music Class, Inc. song collections in our classes. This diverse curriculum has won numerous awards and is easy to incorporate into your family's daily routines with songs about animals, food, transportation and more. Music Pups ® students (ages newborn through four) will receive a songbook and gain access to The Music Class app with their registration. Music Cats ® students (ages 4-6) receive access to an additional practice collection on the TMC app. The Music Class® at home students (online classes) will access all their class materials on The Music Class app.

Fun-filled classes of singing, dancing, movement, and instrument play, all designed to stimulate musical learning! Your whole family will have a blast in class and at home with TMC’s award-winning music collections and and accompanying songbooks. Mixed-age classes are developmentally appropriate and allow siblings to enjoy class together. The Music Class® (formerly called Music Pups®) classes meet once a week for 45 minutes, in 10-week sessions (session lengths and class times may vary) and TMC’s library of 12 song collections allows your family to enjoy class for three years with all new music each session.
The Music Class® Big Kids (Ages four to six with a parent/caregiver)
The Music Class® Big Kids (formerly called Music Cats®) includes the same FUN spirit as The Music Class® with more challenging activities designed to capitalize on the ability and creativity of “big kids". Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes, in 10-week sessions. Families access collection music on The Music Class® app and receive the accompanying collection songbook each session with a broad variety of sounds and activities designed to stimulate musical learning (the same recording used in The Music Class®), plus additional The Music Class® Big Kids practice tracks.
INDOOR, OUTDOOR, & ONLINE CLASS INFORMATION
We offer indoor classes at a variety of class locations across Music City. In indoor classes, all class supplies are provided. Students attend these weekly, 45-minute classes with a parent or caregiver.
We offer outdoor classes at a variety of class locations across Music City. In outdoor classes, families bring a blanket to sit on and a variety of small instruments to play. We recommend instruments to shake, sticks (or wooden spoons or reusable straws) to click, and something to drum on. There's no need to purchase instruments. Homemade instruments are welcome! An overturned mixing bowl makes a great drum when paired with a wooden spoon or scraper. A bottle of cupcake sprinkles is an excellent shaker! Have fun and be creative when planning what to bring to class. Students attend these weekly, 45-minute classes with a parent or caregiver.
Outdoor classes do not meet if temperatures are below 32° F or above 90° F, it is raining, there is a tornado watch, or if roads are hazardous. We will reschedule one "rain" date for each outdoor class. Once we've utilized that "rain" date, any additional outdoor classes will meet online during inclement weather. Inclement weather cancellations are communicated via email (and online class links will also be shared via email). In inclement weather, please check email before heading to your outdoor class. Nashville weather is pretty mild. We have held outdoor classes year round with minimal weather cancellations.
