Sound Start Early Childhood Music offers weekly (45-minute) music classes for children ages newborn to five years to enjoy with a parent or caregiver. Families love our well-trained and ridiculously fun instructors, award-winning curriculum (created by The Music Class, Inc.) and high quality instruments and props. Our research-based teaching methods will help boost your child's sense of pitch and rhythm and foster a life-long appreciation for music. We typically offer four 10-week sessions each year (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.) We have adjusted this schedule and have moved our classes online temporarily for the safety of our students, teachers and their families. We hope you can join us in class soon!

Sound Start Fall classes will begin on August 17, run ten weeks and end on November 2.  We will offer three ONLINE* programs: New Moms/Infants classes,  the Music Pups® program for ages newborn through four years, and the Music Cats® program for children ages four to six years. Fall Holidays: No classes will meet on September 7 (Labor Day) and October 3-9 (Fall Break).

We made the decision to continue our classes online because we cannot meet current safety guidelines for meeting in person.

  1. We can't observe social distancing guidelines. Kids under five would not understand or abide by 6-feet apart. Many of our students are too young to utilize masks. Our classes are very active, physically interactive and involve singing.

  2. Our classrooms do not provide the kind of ventilation necessary to minimize viral spread. Some classes don't even have windows that open.

  3. We cannot guarantee that our customers will not share equipment. While we can TELL a 2-year-old not to touch another 2-year-old's drum, we don't think it is realistic to enforce and the process would be quite unpleasant for parents and children.

Because of this we will stay online where the learning can safely continue, our students can maintain a sense of community and no germs can accidentally be shared. We love and want to keep our students, their parents and extended families safe. We love our teachers and their families and acknowledge that contracting the virus could seriously impact their livelihood since our teachers sing professionally within Sound Start classes and outside of our classes. We miss the big group activities, the high fives and hugs and will return to in-person classes as soon as they are deemed safe for all.

Does this negatively impact Sound Start? Yes. We will struggle but thankfully, because of your support and participation online we have been able to continue operation. This was not the case for the classes in Philadelphia. Sound Start Philadelphia has officially closed following spring classes. We are going to do all we can to keep Nashville classes strong so we can continue providing the very best early childhood music classes possible. If you have friends who might enjoy our classes, please tell them about us. Since we're online, folks can join us from anywhere in the world. We appreciate your involvement and support so much!

Families who register after our registration deadline (five business days prior to the session start date) will be charged a $10 late fee to cover additional fees related to late supply purchases. Our Fall registration deadline is August 10th.  See refund policy here.

Sound Start proudly uses The Music Class, Inc. song collections in our classes.
